So eBay has put out a new logo, and I think the world is falling in love with four colors. Why?

Here’s Microsoft’s new logo:

I am not a graphic designer, but I’d like to think I know what good looks like. And to me, eBay’s new logo looks worse than the original. Sure, the original was loud and pretty goofy, kind of like your uncle, but wasn’t that the embodiment of the company? It’s a giant garage sale. How many garage sales signs do you see each weekend that are the work of Paul Rand?
It seems that so many logos now are streamlining, going to lower case, trying to be more aligned with Ihavenoideawhat. Did eBay see what Microsoft did and say, “Hey, I wanna do that too!”
Basically, they’re all getting boring.
Now, do you want to read a real opinion of the logo change by a real, very smart, graphic expert? Read Armin’s take over at Brand New. He gets all up-in-yo-smart on this.
